Brooklyn producer Ghost Puncher returns with the “Sun Still Rises” E.P on independent record label Nope Records. Featuring four experimental neo-classical influenced meditations reminiscent of classic film noir soundscapes, and modern composers such as Jóhann Jóhannsson, Nils Frahm, and Olafur Amalds, each track takes Ghost Puncher’s melodic approach to IDM influenced electronic composition, using lush string lines, crisp and bright symphonic instruments, further blurring the lines between the old and the new.
The opening track, Morning, gives the listener a sense of hope and nostalgia, casting their minds and hearts back to a simpler, happier time, giving people hope in the era where so much leaves them feeling hopeless. This hope quickly fades as the record dives into the depths with The Empty Parade, reminding us not all is good in the world, and with ourselves. As we move past the halfway point we’re thrown into the The Slowest Road, casting the world around us in the black and white stylistic beauty of the film noir greats, creating an air of mystery and suspense. And finally, with Sun Still Rises, the listener is reminded there is joy, love, and peace out there, if they can only grab it.
